New Plan of Service approved

At its June 2019 meeting the Board of Trustees approved the 2019-2021 Plan of Service. Work to develop a new plan began in August 2017. Numerous community groups participated in conversations focusing on Gloversville at-large as a community. That input guided a subcommittee of trustees and staff in developing a new mission statement and the new Plan of Service.

Two service and two sustainability goals will guide the Library’s path through the next three years. Copies of the plan are available on the Library’s website, on the Library’s in-house bulletin board, and from staff and trustees.

Board looking to fill trustee seat

  • The board is looking to appoint a trustee for one year, through June 30, 2020.

  • The seat will be open for election next May, and that term will be 1 year to complete Betsy’s 5 year term.

  • In 2021 the term will be up for election for 5 years.

Trustee Qualifications

Trustees must be residents of the Gloversville Enlarged School District and must be qualified to vote.

The most important qualification is a strong and genuine belief in public libraries and their mission in the community as centers for information and referral, recreation, and lifelong education. A candidate must also be willing to devote appropriate time and effort to carrying out the duties and responsibilities of trusteeship.

The duties will include regular attendance at board meetings; devoting time to committee service and activities; being visible (and often vocal) in the community on behalf of the library; and taking the time necessary to study and learn about the library and the social, legal, and political context in which it exists.

Board meetings are held the 3rd Tuesday of each month at 6:30pm at the Library.

Some committees meet monthly, most meet as needed. (Which, for periods of time, might mean more than once a month).
