Our Mission

The mission of the Gloversville Public Library Local History Room is to collect, preserve, share, and make available to the public items that are pertinent to the history of Gloversville, Fulton County, the Mohawk Valley Region, and the Capital District of New York State.

To Visit

The Local History Room is available during limited hours. Stop by during open hours, or call or email the Library to schedule an appointment (518-725-2819 or gpllocalhistory@mvls.info). Please contact the Library before visiting to confirm available hours and appointments. While utilizing the Local History Room, personal items are limited to paper, writing utensils, laptops, and/or other mobile devices. Lockable self-storage is available outside of the Local History Room to secure all other personal items during your visit. Visitors will be accompanied by a staff member.

Our Collection

Materials in the Local History Collection are available for in-house use only. The Collection includes:

  • Fulton County cemetery records
  • City directories for Gloversville & Johnstown dating back to the 1860s
  • Old atlases of Fulton & Montgomery Counties
  • Gloversville High School yearbooks
  • Local newspapers on microfilm
  • Genealogy resources
  • Historical pictorial collections
  • And more!

Our Microfilm Collection is not indexed. It is necessary to know specific or approximate date(s) to search the collection. Material found on microfilm can be emailed, saved to an external drive, or printed for a small fee.
